Westfjords of Iceland are much less travelled than most other corners of the country. They are not as famous as the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, Lake Mývatn, and the sites of the Golden Circle. But They are incredibly beautiful!
Because of the tall mountains and endless fjords the scenery comes with a cost as driving in the fjords can be tricky and time consuming. Or simply impossible when it snows much during winter and many roads get closed for days, weeks or even months!
It was the middle of October and we had only 4 days. It is really not enough, but still something to see the beauty of fjords. We were super lucky with a weather: not too much rain, rainbows, couple of sunny days with totally no wind. Believe me, it is super luck))
Западные фьорды наименее посещаемые туристами, чем большинство других уголков Исландии. Они конечно не такие же популярные как ледниковая лагуна Йокульсарлон, озеро Миватн или посещаемое миллионами Золотое кольцо. Но они нереально прекрасны!
Из-за высоких гор и бесконечных фьордов у прекрасных видов есть цена - это длительное время и иногда сложные условия вождения. И в определенное время года, ездить там и вовсе невозможно, из-за большого количества снега, дороги там перекрывают на дни, недели и даже месяцы.
Мы были в Исландии в середине октября и на фьорды у нас было выделено всего 4 дня. Это очень мало, но все же это время, которое нам позволило хоть немного насмотреться красоты. Нам очень повезло с погодой: практически не было дождей, но небольшие дождики, позволили насчитать десяток радуг, и пара солнечных дней с полным безветрием. Поверьте, для Исландии и Западных фьордов солнце и безветрие в одном флаконе - это нереальная удача.
Must do in Westfjords of Iceland ;)
-drive as many km as you can
- take pictures as much as you can
- find so many hot springs as you can
- enjoy the trip and don't forget to smile

- Bolafjall (Mountain in small town Bolungarvík. Some say you can even see Greenland on a clear day from it)
- Dynjandi waterfall
- Látrabjarg cliff (to see puffins in summer time)
- Rauðisandur beach
- Hellulaug hot spring
- Garður BA 64
- Route 622 (one of the most dangerous roads in the world. It’s located in the Westfjords, a large peninsula in northwestern Iceland. Some say it’s the most terrifying road in the country. That is an insanely beautiful route to take with the road carved into and under cliffs and great mountain views all the way. If you have a Jeep, 4x4 experience, time and steel nerves, It is possible to drive this road. The road, also known as Svalvogur road, is 22km long.)
